Current Hosting Options - Postby ShadowRunner » 16 Jan 2014, 14:35

Please list any companies or people you know of offering hosting rental, other than GD, I'm just looking to price the market and find the best value.

Counter-strike hosting are gone I take it. Maverickservers.com is a blank page, is there only GD?

EDIT CS are still advertising them at $0.99 per slot. http://www.counter-strike.com/game_servers/

In your opinion, performance wise, for the sake of £3, is GD better than CS?

Mine is home-hosted. Seems to be the only option now apart from GD and CS.

I don't know if there's any meaningful way to compare GD and CS for performance though. We'd need someone who lives somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic ideally. :D

that would be Whiplash or Spaz and they are not really in the middle, probably less than 1000 miles from Stroud and more than 2000 from CS. Someone north of Brazil or in West Africa is roughly equidistant, DJ is 50% nearer the UK, but someone in India is roughly halfway too, there are Indian players, SpecX and Prototype, thanks I will ask them.

From what I've heard, CS is under new management. They are offering game servers again. However, they were unable to properly configure a European DX server. Despite working with them for several days, they were unable to solve the problem so I got a refund. So unless they fixed the problem, you will be wasting your time with them. Also, they don't have a tool for changing the command line.

Those prices are very competitive compared to GD and a great list of locations. Well worth checking out I would say.

Thanks Poor, I was struggling to remember what happened.

And great Ken, thanks, I will probably try them if they are cheaper, just to try them and compare with GD and CS.

Holy crap! thanks for the link, you can have a minimum of 2 slots which is great news if you just want to keep a server ticking over for map testing, awesome man. :matrix:

Would be a good idea to colllate all the info and have a sticky on the forum.

Send your thanks to Alex, I never remember this host. Bookmarked it from last conversation.

Basically, i3d has hosting precedent already years back, Alpha server (and perhaps other servers by Alex) used to use this host iirc. They should be cheaper than GD and offer variety of countries to host from. Not entirely sure if even FGS didn't use this host once.
