This annoys me on so many levels that I don't want to type about it. The amount of text I could type in complete disagreement regarding why I hate this and why those people are wrong would require the FGS forum hosts to purchase another server, simply to contain the vast ammount of paragraphs of rage. To shorten it out, I'll just agree with SPAZ.

You know, Paganism is the only ideal that seems to last forever. Cave men didn't have gods, and so many religeons have grown and fallen in between then and now... We've been around longer, why does our tried and true method have to be wrong NOW, of all times?

Actually Jim, pagans do worship gods, I should know, my mother is one. There are various gods governing various aspects, depending on what you believe in etc. Sometimes they don't call them gods, they have another name I just can't remember what it is...

paganism is the true religion in nearly its purest form. none of that refined sun-worship/cloudgrandpa cult.

Paganism (from Latin paganus, meaning "rock dweller", "rustic") is a blanket term used to refer to various non Judeo-Christian religions. It doesn't matter if you do, or don't believe in gods. Humans origionally believed in no god, they still fit the definitions of being pagan (as would origional American-indians) and thus the first pagans in history did not worship, or believe in, a god. Paganism covers a vast array of beliefs. Under most (if not all) definitions, a muslim could be called a pagan, your mother can be called a pagan, and somebody who worships the land (as opposed to a god) can be called pagan. In short, just because your mother is a theist and believes in, and worships a god, it doesn't mean every pagan does, or did. Also, the word you couldn't think of is probably "deity".

Actually pagans do believe in gods or spirits. These of course depend on the culture, as you already pointed out. Those who dont believe in god/gods are atheists and the sole reason why atheists could sometimes be described as pagans in different sources comes from the fact that christians/followers of other major religions dont really care to label the infidels as they are all in the wrong to begin with. Not much different from the older "barbar" label.

While I was travelling in Turkey I got into this deep (and somewhat drunken) conversation with a random Turk at a small bar. He told me about how he was interested in religion and how he's read most religious books (bible, kuran etc) but he summerised it all into one phrase. "Everyone is born, some have faith, some don't. For those of us who lead a good life end up together at the end. Some go left, some go right, but all end up together."
I think that's actually a decent way to live.
But still *love* the jews.
