Taking a look at the skybox EDIT brb

I have a good look twice in SDK and see a few things that are odd.

there are 12 surfaces textured with "starslesser" texture, but I can only find 11, the map's 5 fake backdrop walls and the skybox's 6 sides.

I can not see any obvious reason why it won't work in MP, trusting your skyzone info is a default one.

Try changing the 6 surfaces in the skybox from "starslesser" to another sky texture and making sure surfaces inside the skybox are not marked "fake backdrop".
Try replacing your skyzone info with another.
Make sure the 5 player map walls/ceiling are marked "fake backdrop" in surface properties.
Also something doesn't appear right with the lighting inside the skybox, but that is hard to tell, could just be that you are using black on the floor as well, but normally I see some effect of actor lighting inside the skybox. If so, then you need to remake the skybox, make sure it's on grid in both x and y axis.
Otherwise I need to spend a bit more time looking.

There are two extra surfaces: the fake backdrops at both ends of the river.

As for the skybox, yes, the floor is also black. I have the lighting set very conservative in there because my monitor is kinda crappy, when I over-illuminate a black surface it looks purple.

In any case, I've done all I can think of with it.

I just did a bit more work and I found that (with a new skybox, dont know if it happened with the old one) that the skybox worked below the waterline of the river. I took it out the waterzone and water sheet, hoping that would provide a fix but instead it doesnt work at all now.

More updates: I thought I had found a clever, albeit crass workaround: I would simply make all the walls invisible.

And that worked, but when I went to put the river back in, the water now fills the whole map ](*,) I laid the special brush down right, put the waterzone inside the area and everything, and its a total disaster.

I seriously want to *love* it all out the window right now :clout:

Work from an earlier save if you have one!? if not delete the water zone info and sheet brush, rebuild then remake them both, rebuild and should be good. double check the zone info actor is not duplicated as well or you have miss placed another water zone actor in the map.

The problem is not the skybox then, but the waterzone and some bsp or grid/brush issue.

It is common when mapping to have a waterzone fill the whole map, it is usually just a case of rebuilding the sheet and rebuilding the map and nothing else.

On a positive note, this sort of thing does honestly stop happening after a while, the SDK is an untamed beast that needs everything a certain way sometimes and it's just a case of practicing brushwork until you fly at it.

I think I've just figured out why my SkyBoxes don't work: it seems that adding a ZoneInfo to a map ensures that the skybox shows up regardless of whether SP or MP is being played.

Expect a fixed version to be posted shortly.

Hey Whip. I said I could host this at the weekend for ya, Sorry mate I just haven't the time to do so atm. You could host it yourself tho!? and get some feed back or find someone who can. Look forward to fighting on this map no doubts about that so let everyone know when it's hosted :-D

Whip are you renaming each version? aka beta_1 beta_1.1. or v2. v2.1?
I'm already lost to what version is which atm!

Yeah, every map should have a different name.. so at least a different version number at the end, but it must NOT be separated with a DOT!
