The real problem is that Facebook profits partly by amplifying lies and selling dangerous targeting tools that allow political operatives to engage in a new level of information warfare. Its business model exploits our data to let advertisers aim, showing each of us a different version of the truth and manipulating us with hyper-customized ads — ads that as of this fall can contain blatantly false and debunked information if they’re run by a political campaign. As long as Facebook prioritizes profit over healthy discourse, it can’t avoid damaging democracy.

Zuckerberg seemed to equate regulation of companies like his to the actions of “the most repressive societies”. Incredible. This, from one of the six people who decide what information so much of the world sees. Zuckerberg at Facebook, Sundar Pichai at Google, at its parent company Alphabet, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Brin’s ex-sister-in-law, Susan Wojcicki at YouTube and Jack Dorsey at Twitter.

The Silicon Six – all billionaires, all Americans – who care more about boosting their share price than about protecting democracy. This is ideological imperialism – six unelected individuals in Silicon Valley imposing their vision on the rest of the world, unaccountable to any government and acting like they’re above the reach of law.

Fascists are fascists. They just are. People on the internet play games saying things they know aren't true.
And then everyone acts shocked when reality intervenes and then they try to cram it back into internet orthodoxy.
Proud Boys and Turning Point USA both pride themselves on multi ethnic outreach. Its only people on the internet who pretend not to know reactionaries and fascists come in every color. Everyone knows it. Everyone has tons of life experience to confirm it. Everyone plays games on the internet.

With propaganda you can condition the public into accepting and even voting against their own interests, particularly in an undereducated republic whose perspective on history and current events is skewed through pop media indoctrination. (e.g. internet memes)
