Discussing the "heirarchies"

Continuation of what was closed in the LTK departure thread.

Deus Ex is mostly an exception for the way most gaming communities work. As a player who plays many different online multiplayer shooters I can see this difference well.

The clans in Deus Ex are basically builds of one another and usually just the same clan with a different name. There are very few original clans in DX.

Also, the DX community is much less pleasant, the players in clans are usually cocky and talk down to others, and are impatient when it comes to matters of clan war setups.

In other games vets aren't really considered because most of the players are so new and so numerous that they don't know any better. The ones who have been around awhile do respect the vets, and the vets give love right back.

In DX it's different. Look at old players like TonyMontana or Reclaimer, who are arrogant pricks, then take old players from other games and they'll be completely different. Respectful and willing to share the wisdom of their experience.

In DX, the coders and the mappers are valued. Too highly imo, because as Sike wisely put it, this game does not need more user maps or mods, it needs more players. Majority of the mappers I've met don't even play the game.

I've actually been toying around with an idea for an original clan for about a year or so now, the only problem is the game doesn't have the numbers required to get it started. To really get it started I need around 4 players who are not only good at the game, but also good at leading and would be willing to spend time training new players. Unfortunately most players who are good enough are egomaniacs, so everything would fall apart rather quickly. On top of this I had some ideas for the clan that might help bring in some new players, but as I said it would be pretty much impossible to get this clan working at this stage of the game.

~[E]~ has two trainees atm, a third one on its way...
I find that more than 3 trainees is unpossible to handle, it's already hard enough to train 3 :P

The 2nd one of those players who you mentioned just talks much but can't do metabolic end product when it comes to playing. Reclaimer is terrible.

It's a real shame that so many people think coders and mappers are gonna keep this game alive. I'm often told I'm doing nothing to keep this game alive. Mods and maps won't keep this game alive, especially when these coders, mappers and everyone who sucks up to them are drooling all over forums how awesome these people are for "keeping the game alive". Just playing the *loving* game is a much bigger contribution. There are already thousands of user made maps and mods out there for you to choose.

This is just an advice for you, maybe you should train yourself before training others? Also your signature sucks ass.

beating on noobs and talking metabolic end product aint keeping the game alive either...

I'm not saying anyone is special, my whole point is that no-one is special, but the community does tend to respect people for various skills.

If there were no new maps, no new mods, dx would die a lot faster...

Reclaimer is terrible.
I haven't seen him play since 2006. He was really good then, but still an insufferable ass.

Rec seemed to take it on board and do something about it, Mak was spitting fire and brimstone until the end I would say...

Seriously Sike, you're the very last one who should make such statements.
Because of people like you, the community breaks apart even more, which results in people to leave and people to flame eachother instead of playing together.
By all your arrogance which smells to sky, you simply don't see the truth.
If every server had hosted ATDM and BTDM with only default maps since 2001, the game would have died by 2003 already.
It's right that playing the game is the basic contribution to keep a game alive.
However, without the modifications, almost no one would have the desire to PLAY the game anymore and it would die.
Unlike wannabe legends like you, modders and mappers don't claim how awesome they are.
2 years ago, YOU were the one, joining servers and making players to leave due to unpleasant behavior.
So get your facts straight, before posting such a small minded many metabolic end product again.

depends on the map, depends on the mod.

But the two busiest servers of 2006/2007 were [A] custom servers.

This year is unusual in that EDH is busiest, but even that has custom maps.

Even a flood of biblical proportions did not stop Spaz from playing Deus Ex.

Does that make me God or something? I mean I am the one that picked you up out of the mud that was the GODZ server and recruited you to [Shen.] Who knows if you'd still be playing if it weren't for that.
