Metallica has become really boring and hillariously commercial. A good example is the newest album. Its not that good (they kicked all really good new songs from the CD -.-") and it has really been hyped.

The only really good albums are: "Kill Em' All", "Ride The Lightning", "Master of Puppets", "And justice for all..." and "St. Anger"

Btw: If you like thrash metal, try "Toxic Holocaust". Its another great thrash metal band from the US.

I'm quite a big metallica fan, I never used to be, but I like the black album alot, it's one of maybe three records where I can happily listen to every song on the album.

I guess I'm a closet rock fan in the sense that I don't hang out with people who like rock music and I don't have long hair or wear black t-shirts.

Metallica's new album didn't hold my interest, I gave it a few listens but was very dissapointed.

The lead singer's voice (forgotten the name) sounds weak and they try to emulate riffs from previous albums which seems quite desperate.

For me Metallica is alot of fun to listen too, outrageous riffs coupled with an incredible vocal track.

Hawk, DO NOT LET ME CATCH YOU IN A DARK ALLEY. How can you say St. Anger is good? It's their worst album ever. And you hear it in the music. Death Magnetic = WE'RE BACK.

No more Metallica bashing, only fans here plz.

Excluding expression written in bold, you are right.
Although I like the Black Album and Death Magnetic too.
If you like old-syle thrashy Metallica, listen to Megadeth

Somewhat on topic, Metallica is really mediocre. I'm not really a fan of thrash, but bands like Coroner, Artillery, Megadeth, and even some Voivod far outstrip Metallica in terms of technicality and simply making interesting music. I will say however that I will take Metallica over Slayer any day. Now there is a band that really sucks. However, out of everything said in this topic I have to agree with Sasquatch most, although I'm more a fan of people like Holst, Wagner, and Paganini, not to mention a lot of the Russian Romantic composers.

Unless we're strictly discussing thrash's prime in the 80's, that statement, in light of today's status of those bands, would be way off. Dave Lombardo is one of the most talented drummers I've ever seen since Buddy Rich and Dennis Chambers.

As for American thrash bands, check out Anthrax, Exodus, Megadeath (offshoot of Metallica). These are the big four. Then there's Death Angel, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies, Violence, OverKill, Nuclear Assault and I can't really think of any more that I listen to.

Lombardo's really the only one with any real talent in that band. Araya's vocals are just plain awful and King doesn't even know anything about playing guitar. He has admitted numerous times that he just hits random notes.

Skil: Who says a person can't like metal if they bash Metallica? I roughly have 10,000 metal songs on my computer right now and none of it is Metallica. Why? Because they're very boring compared to most other metal out there.

I have to say current Metallica is trash, but you can't bash on anything they made from Kill em all to Master of Puppets.
