Got back to mapping in q3radiant, here's something I've been working on this weekend:

This is still very, very alpha. Needs a lot of work on lighting. Needs a shitload of detail. Needs better flow. Have to somehow block the ability to drag the flag from one base to the other in 10 seconds.
This is intended to be a very fast CTF/TS/TDM/FFA map, it's symmetrical layout is not suitable for Bomb Mode.

I plan on finishing it by the end of February, some sort of betatesting might be done earlier.

Opinions?

I like the map! It seems to have a bit of a science-fiction atmosphere about it..it reminded me of DX maps. Very good job :)

Looks friggin' awesome, I have the software installed but I can't make a damned thing, I'm really struggling with the most basic elements within the editor.

when you get a hang on things (was hard for me too after switching from UnrealEd) mapmaking is very simple and quick. Way faster than with UnrealEd. q3radiant has some awesome brush editing tools, like Edges and Vertexes Tool, which can be used to drag edges or vertexes of any brush, in any way. Also you can resize brushes on-the-fly (dragging them around), you don't have to type in the size of the brush, texturing is faster, clipper tool that allows you to cut any shape in any brush...

the best thing, though, are the shaders - basically those are textures with a script that allow you to quickly add nice effects to your map, like water, fog, nodraw areas, caulk (not rendered by the game engine, adds FPS), mirrors, "pillows" (no fall damage), jumppads etc... list goes on

here's a simple tutorial on how to get started with q3radiant for UrT:
http://forums.urbanterror.net/topic/859 ... diant-1-5/

Also, if you have any trouble with the editor, just look up quake 3 mapping tutorials... it's all the same for UrT.

Thanks Kuchcik, I hear it's best to Caulk the whole map first then add in your textures to the seen parts.

DO IT. I'll have the common decency to wait until you do before I shamelessly plug my clan's servers. :-D

I've played at your FWABG server quite a few times now, do you use Skillgannon as your tag in UrT?

Ooh you have chinny? Yes I do btw, though atm I'm going by -=UrF=-BanHammer, given I usually have to do it on a regular basis. Swing by our forums when you get the chance and say hi, the address pops up in the console spam in the server on a regular basis. ;) (I'm a little reluctant to post our site address here as there are people who seem to have it in for me in this community, for no other reason than I happen to exist, and I don't want to put my mate's site and hard work in jeopardy.)

What's your UrT name then? Dunno if I've seen you or not....

First beta version is done. This is more of a test release than ready-to-play, I'm leaving in a moment and didn't have the time to do a proper compile so the lighting is shitty. Textures might have "spots" - this is normal with 'light -fast' compiles. I still have to blur out the levelshot (the image that is displayed during loading) and fix some misaligned brushes.

Please report any bugs found, and post ideas. Also, be sure to test if ladders work, and if you can walk though light beams.
Bots are not working on this map. Might create the .aas file needed for it later.

Put the .pk3 file in your UrbanTerror/q3ut4 folder. Then run the game, click "start server", change the gametype to FFA, TDM, TS, or CTF and choose the map from the list.

This map is way too shitty at the moment to host it in public servers, so don't get any ideas until I release finished one.

I will be back next weekend, so don't expect any response yet. Might have a quick look at the forums tomorrow or Wednesday too.
