Possible solutions to spammer and rulebreakers

Today I joined thc server to enjoy a game of DXMP, but a guy who was there, impersonating FGS going by the name [FGS]Cheesedick was spamming the metabolic end product out of the chat. Being no admins online at the time, and like most times there are no admins to stop this, I thought of how spammers could be removed. I came up with a few ideas:

1. Player Vote Mute feature - Player vote to have another players chat functions disabled
Pros: No admins required
Cons: Can be abused by players who doesn't like other players

2. Admin Mute - Admin joins server, disables bad player's chat functions
Pros: No abuse by players
Cons: Not always an admin online

3. Automatic Mute - Server disables player's chat functions for a period of time, rising each time after X number of messages
Pros: No admins, no abuse
Cons: Possible accidental mute on players who are actually have a conversation

4. DXMP Wide Admin Network - Server hosters trade admin passwords
Pros: More admins, Server monitored more resulting in calmer, more fair gameplay
Cons: Possible abuse, not trusting other server hosters
Solution to cons: Perhaps use DJ's moderator login to limit admin powers.

I can confirm that he has been doing this at least on both THC servers and for total of several hours, usually several map lengths a row. I played some 3 or 4 maps with him *constantly* spamming metabolic end product bound to two keys, just above spam kick threshold, and I know he was there earlier today as well for many maps.

New AdvBan with more reliable method or randomized method would likely be best, I cannot imagine how to mute this guy any more we cannot ban him, right now. Maybe if mute was based on the same, more reliable factor as the suggested advban update. Alternative, indeed, is to mute everybody, but that kind of voids the point and will be a very, very desperate measure.

as a short term measure, how about modding it so that "Say" messages don't make a noise

i.e. the spammer can still spam but noone "hears" the new messages coming up.

Advanced ban doesn't work... Not even nephthys works... he has dynamic IP and need to find a way to ban him by something like PC name.... Could be possable because that is registered in that actor.uc class. however I hear that it is not unique.

Nobody has made a patch so you can disable your own message voice though, if you find that annoying.

GUIZ. AdvBan is driven by camels.
are you folks really sure that you have tried AdvBanning and it still doesn't work?

I think the final version of advban was never released, however the last released version should be sufficient enough to ban him, as I doubt he'll know how to bypass it. And I don't think advban bans based on IP no?

It takes about 30-40 sec for me to bypass advban, and if he evades it then he probably knows how to do it aswell -- however, if he reads these forums, then he definitely knows now ;)

Perhaps you could edit your post.

Cheesedick....lol

Yeah this spammer is persistent if nothing else, I hope it's not Brad though, he seems like a decent fella to me, I'm sure it's someone else.

Last spammy guy who used to do exactly the same thing: pointless spamming for hours on end, was someone called d1man. I have no idea who d1man is, from under what rock he crawled out, but I sure hope something very painful and unfortunate happens to him in near future, and I do believe I can say that with clear conscience and calm heart, at this point.

Personally I don't mind assuming its DOGNY; maybe clone or evil twin sticking out of dogny's back, but just as retarded.

d1man is a player within the 80 ping range, maybe Czech, who last went by the alias of AlexJacobsen.

I think its probably d1man, Alex made a good point that proxies are easily available, and d1man is only guy known for persistantly doing something like this. Wouldn't be TOO surprised if it turns out to be olo or VincentMCDOOM on proxy
