korean movies

Post by synthetic »

Well I just finished watching Gwoemul (The Host), starring one of the leading actors in SK, the movie received a lot of hype and somehow ended up being shown in the US, Korea (unprecedented blockbuster at the time, from what I read) and Kim's Korea (due to certain anti-american elements, but its a stretch to call the movie anti-us).

Its basically a *loving* amazing movie with an odd family, lots of comedy, plenty drama, and a mutated fish thing that was coreographed by the director as if it was a real actor.

*spoiler*

So if youd like to see something entertaining yet somewhat different from the average western movies were used to, give this one ago :)

The same main actor also played in the "Thirst" which I saw in cinema last year, part of the movie festival here. Another fantastic movie. A vampire movie not quite what I expected when I sat down into the cinema chair.

Good part is that I was set out to watch one of the 6 unseen Kim Ki-Duk movies (incredible korean director..) I have in a folder here, but stumbled across this title I had downloaded only because korean movie and monster movie seemed like a hilarious combination.

Plot looks fun: A monster emerges from Seoul's Han River and focuses its attention on attacking people. :D
A second episode is being made, might download it this weekend.

"35+ only!" o shi-

Anyway lemme know what you think of the movie if you actually get around to watching it, I know you have couple titles piling up for the weekend as it is. :-)

I watched it with sister and we were kind of wtf from the very start, when I read that its actually based on a real story (the incident at the beginning) it was even more strange. "The Han river is broad, be broad minded :-D " The director pokes fun at the rebellious youth and passive korean government as much as he makes fun of the US officials and military presence in the country. And all this in a friggin monster movie :-D
The agent yellow thing that is brought in at some point of the movie is also a reference to the 'nam agent orange.

Think Ill download that acclaimed movie that preceeded The Host. Should be entertaining.

If anyone else is interested in watching couple odd asian movies for a change I can always suggest something.

VAGINAS FROM CHERNOBYL

Oh and Asian films are the best. Used to watch them with Bezz, he's a big fan of them.
More stuff like Kung Fu Hustle, Kung Fu Dunk and Shaolin Soccer though, and stuff like IP Man...
And what's that Asian film of that island where all the school kids have to kill eachother? It's pretty awesome aswell.

Anyway might check this out aswell, does it have alot of seeds when downloading from torrent? (Too lazy to check out myself)

Yea I'm gonna need a torrent too.
Asian movies are weird and I personally hate manga for making the characters look ridiculus. Lots of manga gays at DXAlpha lol..

Err anime and asian movie isnt exactly same thing. If anything asian movies tend to have more content than the white-washed lolliwood movies :P

Yeah, maybe even three parts im not sure anymore. Umm.. Im not sure if the sequel was any better or worse but I did enjoy both of the movies couple years ago. I think I might even have one on the hdd still.

And hey, it has Takeshi Kitano :D

On another note, I had dinner and turned tv on and catched some korean movie that seemed to have just started. Somehow I ended up spending 2 hours on watching it.. once it was over I just HAD to find out its name and some details about it.

imdb user quote: "I rank this movie in my top three greatest thriller/serial killer movies of all time somewhere between "Seven" and "Silence of the Lambs""

That sounds about right, although Ive seen some great ones as well. The movie name is The Chaser

Im still O_o right now, tbh.

Weird fact: the movie is about a serial killer, it has ton of bodies, plenty violence and cursing, army of dumb police officers.. and yet I dont think I saw a single *loving* firearm throughout the whole *loving* movie.. wtf

So I watched The Host just now, and it was... Well... Mehhh...

AMAZING.

Loved it :3 Good acting (not that I give much of a damn about acting in films, not that much of a critic, but this stood out great :3)
And like, yeah it was pretty intense and refreshing. The fish was awesome aswell, I think Christopher Walken was playing as the fish tbh.
UGLY MOFO.
Anyway yeah, thanks for telling me about this film, it's sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
