Everybody is unanimous that a new engine would be great but is it within grasp? Could it happen?

Man, Synthetic, You sound like you never liked the community in the first place lol. If you lost all interest in the dxmp community, don't unleash your hate and opinions here... Just simply uninstall the game.

Looking at available resources now, it would be possible but would also be coming along at snail's pace, and would require an unprecedented amount of cooperation within dxmp and potentially dxsp communities -- latter being so far practically unheard of; hengsha is likely the first project to involve even that amount of people who do something.
Biggest releases in DXMP have always come from 1-man or 2-man teams, less frequently with 3rd contributing, not counting testers.

If someone is able to put together a team for it, and not start porting dxmp over to new engine all alone, it would be possible.

It is critical for the team to figure out what exactly dxmp is.

The most competitive and talented players currently stand by original dxmp, which is a surprise but also a relief. I've heard more than one auger dream of "when I become a millionaire I'll have new dxmp made", and it is possible that some people contribute with some aid from that sector of playerbase.
This - and-or an improved, modernized version - is what you should be focusing on porting to the new engine.

0aug scene is flat on its ass right now, and while all current auging clans have 0auging capacity, the gametype itself will not compete on modern market, and will become synonymous with improved auged gametypes upon any effort made to improve it.

No other gametypes are mention worthy from contemporary gamers point of view, but it has to be said that if you want to develop an MMO (which is something couple guys seemed to have tried, or are trying) you need to pick a suitable engine and learn the basics of MMO developement and content trends. It is unlikely that many dxmp players will move to that, but they might be interested in checking it out; regardless, mmo market is huge as far as amount of players and involved money goes.

Do not for once expect popularity for 15-17 years old engine, particularly if it is for a new mmo.

It is ridiculous how dxmp players have forgotten what dxmp is; upon recognizing a feasible goal, biggest issue in this community can be overcome and work on new engine can begin.

As for me uninstalling, I've been around much longer than you have, and trust me to stay around well after you have shed your tears and left the community. Or, alternatively you can listen to what players say and help out with the new engine.

I haven't mapped for this game (with releases, I worked on my own silly SP mod in 2001-2003, and eventually gave up) and don't know how to code, but my biggest strength is team coordination and additionally I can learn anything that is necessary within reasonable amount of time. I could easily start mapping for new engine tomorrow and do that complete with thorough research into building and optimization. I will not participate in converting DXSP, though, it is more reasonable to just create new DX game instead.

You don't want to start a flame war with me, Mario. You feel wounded that I criticized speedhacking, your insane bind sequences, or that I was against letting phantom freely cheat in THC server? Or is it that you are just upset I left THC and want to get back to me here?

What better logic you have to offer? Start coding and port game to another engine alone without cooperating with anyone, as is norm here? No, I don't think you have much else to offer. You barely ever even played the game, more of a forum hero. Even if you mastered uscript in 3 days, you'd be clueless as to what to do with it besides making localized version of farmville on unreal1.

Ooh derail was largely my fault, sorry about that. :bwahaha: I wanna elaborate on the new engine stuff (I've put a LOT of thought into it) but I'll save that for another thread in the future, unless you're curious too.

Out of curiosity, with the coding being the major element and a new engine being a blank canvas, would it be possible to incorporate "Assault" coding from UT into a new engine with relative ease? I understand that the coding is very old from UT but then again so is Deus ex, surely there couldn't be THAT many differences?

From what I understood they didn't include assault in ut3 so that's why they lost a lot of players as well as being very graphically demanding?

People here have more gaming and modding experience than you do so they are making something “new” in DX with their unique ideas.
