In the case of Skilgannon's map, it is definitely unsuitable for a long life on Wunderland
Now why didn't you tell me that in the first place? Lol! Jk. :P

EDIT: Though I note there is a certain map called ScoutzKnivez? Probably about the same size, and with a lot less on it? Hmmm? :smt046 Sorry, I'm in a urine-take mood atm.

I've got a few maps that are not suitable for Wunderland Altfire server and thus I had to take them off the maplist, it's just the way it is.

Making Altfire maps is very challenging, a good Altfire map will have ramps instead of ladders, at least a few rooms of decent height (for low grav jumps), and should offer quite alot of cover and hiding places as Altfire weapons can pack a huge punch.

It's mainly trial and error, a good mapper will be open to critisism and reworking of their maps, maps should evolve over time untill you get to the point where you, and the community are happy with it. Ofcourse you won't please everyone but you can gain feedback from the community and try to please the majority.

Keep up the good work.

P.S. Scoutknivez should die a horrible death.

Leave it alone. AltFire needs a few maps that are simply fighting and nothing else. DXMP is a straightforward shooter, not a (very) tactical team game. IMO anyway.......

I think Scoutznivez is the exception, it's like our training map. And if you force FGS members to play it, they do improve to the required standard on shock rifle. That's why I like it, but sadly it lacks a blade wep in altfire.

Also nukedeath is not running this year, but has always, and that is a consideration also. Spawnrooms need to be big and not easy to bombard.
I removed the window on the spawn in Area51's hangar for same reason.
Comm and Tower have walls, but someone can open comm door and shoot right into the hangar spawnroom. Imagine that with nukedeath and you have six dead NSF in 2 seconds, who stood too close.

EnemyAtTheGates had ramps and I felt it let the map down, very unrealistic, it need stairs and some of them broken, perhaps one or two ramps, but every floor access was a ramp, it just looked out of place with the total realism of the remaining map. I think there is nothing wrong with stairs, if there is an alternative jumping route too perhaps.

And yes, I would reinforce chinny's point about cover... look at the maps that both E and FGS did not want... Area51, Scoutzknivez etc... Arena maps don't work well in Altfire I think. Good altfire maps... DXMP_S9 (Players moan about lack of weps) EnemyAtTheGates (maybe a lot of vac), Some maps dont fit the profile, but work well... VoidCrib, DXSG_CMD_V1,

I would say this... bear in mind that its an altfire maptesting situation, dont have to map exclusively for altfire, the server needs variety also, to give people training in fun in different areas/weps etc. We have a lot of outdoors, but little in the way of Urban outdoors, HK_TheDayAfter is the only one I have done and is similar to Skilgannon's and Scoutznivez, you have to cross a central area...

I think to answer your question Skilgannon, Iceworld and Scoutzknivez at least have somewhere you can run around the middle. DXMP_Tunnel Network is a good map in augs and 0-augs, it has a huge central room like your map, but there is some cover, a central hub... like Iceworld. Scoutz too, although its off to one side.

my favourite AltFiremaps: Skyline!, A51, CMD_The_Day_After, Encounter, 18th street tnag (yes might come as a surprise, but I find myself pretty invincible on this map :oops: 8) ), and yeah basicly huge maps, lots of camping poss., etc.

Scoutz can be fun, but I'd like it to see it as a Deathmatch (not Team Deathmatch), would be CRAZY!

Edit/ check the piano in voidcrib, it has an awesome tune :P

im sorry but i have been a little preoccupied with school and such :) I rarely have time to even look at the server list (lol and last time i did they were all down) so thats great that the server is up!

you are using UT textures...
for a start Nebula is bugged, it doesnt load.
some UT textures dont work in DX, for me anyway.
What I did was take the individual texture and export as pcx and then make a new .utx
but in the case of nebula, that still didnt work, it wont apply.
